2 sent to hospital following chain-reaction crash in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, NY – Two people were injured Tuesday morning due to a four-vehicle collision near Penfield involving a suspected impaired driver, according to 13 ABC WHAM.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene on Empire Boulevard near Creek Street at about 10:25 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a driver may have been impaired by drugs when their SUV rear-ended a minivan. The impact of that crash sent the van into a third vehicle before it collided with a trailer being towed by a fourth vehicle.

First responders had the driver of the van and a passenger in the SUV transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for a mix of back and chest pain.

Officials said the driver of the SUV, who is under suspicion of driving while impaired, was questioned at the scene.
