Pedestrian hospitalized after hit-and-run crash in Falconer, driver charged

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, NY – One person was sent to the hospital last Friday afternoon, May 31, after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Falconer, reports WNY News Now.

Town of Ellicott Police Department officers were called to the scene of the pedestrian crash at the corner of West Main Street and South Work Street at about 4:36 p.m.

Authorities said the victim, whose name and age remains undisclosed, was using a crosswalk at the intersection when they were hit by a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old local man.

The pedestrian was transported to UPMC Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The man then reportedly drove away from the site at high speeds toward Jamestown. Officers with the Ellicott and Jamestown Police Departments pursued the fleeing vehicle for several streets before the suspect turned himself in. He was then arrested and booked into Chautauqua County Jail.

Charges against the suspect include “Reckless Endangerment in the first degree, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the second degree.”
