A Niagara County accident involving a dump truck left a 49-year-old woman with significant injuries, authorities said. The June 10 incident reportedly took place on Niagara Falls Boulevard at approximately 3:05 p.m.
The 49-year-old woman was driving her 2003 Infiniti in the westbound lanes of the boulevard when an eastbound dump truck attempting to make a left turn broadsided her, according to authorities. As a result of the collision, the dump truck reportedly flipped onto its side and became enmeshed in electrical guide wires.
Electrical crews responded to the scene of the crash to emancipate the truck from the power lines in a safe manner. The driver of the dump truck escaped the incident without injury, authorities said. Meanwhile, firefighters extricated the 49-year-old woman from her vehicle, and officials transported her to Buffalo’s Erie County Medical Center. Authorities reported that she suffered broken bones in her arm requiring surgery.
Authorities indicated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing. While investigators determined that the dump truck was not experiencing any mechanical failures, they did not rule out the possibility that the dump truck driver was at fault for the accident.
Truck accidents often inflict serious damage upon the people and property involved in them. This particular accident illustrates that fact. The people who suffer injuries in these accidents must often cope with a long period of recovery. In addition to physical pain, the injured person may also suffer from financial stress, especially if their injuries prevent them from going to work and earning a paycheck.
However, truck accident victims may find recourse in civil court if they can prove that another party should be held responsible for the accident. By retaining a personal injury lawyer and filing suit, these victims may seek financial compensation for hospital bills, medical expenses and even lost wages related to their injuries.
